This week we are going to start studying how to write essays. Here is a link to the four-point essay grading rubric that is used in our class this year:

Basically 0 = F, 1 = D, 2 = C, 3 = B, and 4 = A. This is the same rubric that is used on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) which you will all take later this year.
We are also going to begin learning grammar this week with parts of speech (nouns, verbs, etc.). For more information on the parts of speech, try this website:

Also, don't forget to bring your binder, blue/black pen, colored pen or highlighter, and paper to class for our materials check on Tuesday, August 28th. If you cannot get these materials on time, see me! I have extras!
