Open House

As many of you know, I have not been feeling well this week (I even lost my voice) so I will be unable to attend Open House tonight. Sorry. Here, however, is some of the information I would have shared with all of you!

CONGRATULATIONS:

Open House this year is "A Celebration of Learning" and there are so many of you who have done great work so far! In particular, I would like to congratulate our Star Writers who all got a 4 (this is nearly a perfect score) on our practice CAHSEE essay:

Period 1:

Kelly B.
Mia C.

Period 2:

Jingyi H.
Marcel K.

Period 3:

Sara S-A.
Kitty S.

Period 4:

Simon Z.

Period 5:

Steven T.

Almost everyone's grade on the essay improved from last time, so great work!

WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW:

We just finished reading Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451. We will have a test and an essay in two weeks. Students should have the book with them at home and should be bringing it with them to class every day.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

The English Benchmark, a school-wide test on grammar and writing skills, is Thursday, April 26th. We will spend next week reviewing the grammar we learned last semester. This will also be a good refresher for 11th grade and for the CST!

After the CSTs (which begin May 1st) we will read Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. We will do most of the reading in class, but students will have homework including an extra-credit opportunity!

CONTACT INFO.

Any parent or guardian who has further questions for me is encouraged to contact me via email (this is the quickest way!) at naylor_lori@ausd.us . As always, information about grades and attendance can be found at family.ausd.us . Finally, specific information about my class can be found at this website!

Thank you, and here's looking forward to the rest of a great year!
